Learning and Growing

Hello Friends!

In the midst of where the world is currently at, it seems good to take some time to write out some encouragement and insight.

Adjusting to change is not easy, because it means the comfort of our routines has to be adjusted to whatever fits a new normal. Some of this is enjoyable, some of it not.

In our home, we have enjoyed the increased time together and decreased demands on our schedules. At the same time, we have been brainstorming how to keep Ethan content during the days at home, so far it is proving a little bit difficult (he has been asking repeatedly to go on trips and airplanes and it is only day two out of school!).

What can we do in the midst of this? What can we do to help the world around us as it battles fear and uncertainty?

The first and foremost answer is that we can pray. We can speak to God our Father directly and at any time about anything. This has all been made possible through Jesus Christ!

I found myself convicted yesterday as I received a group message on Facebook from our dear friends In Mexico calling all believers to pray against the Coronavirus at a specific time. I am ashamed to say my immediate thoughts were, “well that’s a little bit lofty isn’t it?”. What a fleshly limited perspective of prayer and of the God of the universe! I repented quickly as the Lord convicted me and later joined with our worship team last night praying that the God who parted a sea, stopped the sun, caused pestilence to cease at a point of His choosing, that sent His Son to save us, would indeed tell this virus to cease and go no further.

In our routines and in our daily lives, it is easy to shrink God down to someone more “our-size” instead of the God revealed to us in Scripture and through the Holy Spirit to us today! As men and women of God, we need to cling to the Truth about what prayer is and about how much our God can truly do in us, through us, and in our world.

Last night and this morning the simple yet breathtaking conclusion of Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church (as well as for us!) has been heavy on my heart. May the Word speak to you and stir you to powerful prayer and unshakeable hope…

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.
